Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace first went public with her battle with gender dysphoria almost two years ago, and now, the lead singer of the Florida-bred punk rock group is documenting her transition in a new reality series for AOL.
So Much More, Laura Jane’s new reality series will follow Against Me! on their tour in support of latest record Transgender Dysphoria Blues. The series promises not only to document Laura Jane’s transition from male to female, but also tells the stories of other gender-variant people she’s met along the way.
“It took until I was 31 to publicly come out as a transgender woman. Nothing has been the same since,” the singer/guitarist formerly known as Tom Gabel says in a trailer for the series (below). “You build it up in your head beforehand…’Should I transition?’ And you’re following through with that and you realise life’s a transition, everyone’s in transition, that’s just the way it is.
“That’s what I hope [the series] gives other people, too, that they feel like they’re not alone in the world,” she added. “I’m not the person I was yesterday, and I’m not the person that I’m going to be tomorrow,” Grace says. “I’m just figuring it out as I go along, just like anyone else in the world.
AOL has yet to announce a premiere date for the series and hasn’t disclosed how many episodes it will comprise of. The show is one of 16 new series scheduled to debut later this year on AOL’s On Network including ones from James Franco, Steve Buscemi and Zoe Saldana.
