Following frontman Brian Johnson‘s assurances last month that legendary Australian hard rock band AC/DC is not breaking up, Johnson has now confirmed the band will be moving forward with new studio sessions to be overseen by Brendan O’Brien, who produced their 2008 album Black Ice.
Speaking to The Telegraph last month, Johnson rubbished rumours that the band was coming to an end following reports that Malcolm Young was gravely ill. Johnson said the band would definitely reassemble in Vancouver and confirmed that one of the members “has a debilitating illness.”
The band took to their official Facebook channel to confirm the rumours surrounding Malcolm Young’s health and to announce that he would be taking a break from the band. “After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC… Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health.”
Speaking in an interview promoting his upcoming television series Cars That Rock, which premieres on the UK’s Quest TV on 8th May, Johnson said, “I’ll be in Vancouver with the boys in the studio on May 1st.” Johnson said he expects the legendary band to be in the studio from May through to July.
“I think maybe June, July… May, June, and finish… I don’t know. We’re with Brendan O’Brien, he’s a very rapid producer,” Johnson added. In the wake of Malcolm Young‘s illness, Johnson was also asked if the band have plans to play live again. “I hope so. I don’t think I’m finished yet,” he replied.
Meanwhile, AC/DC fan sites have been abuzz over new photos being shared from Vancouver, including images showing that the band’s gear has indeed arrived in the studio. Photos were also shared of Johnson and bandmates Angus Young and Cliff Williams, reportedly taken in Vancouver.
