Watch Briggs And Gurrumul Cover Archie Roach On ‘Like A Version’

Victorian rapper and Shepparton local Briggs has performed alongside indigenous Australian musician Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu on triple j‘s ‘Like A Version‘ covers program this morning, with an adaptation of the Archie Roach song Took The Children Away.

In celebration of NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) week, which runs from the 6th to 13th July, Briggs and Gurrumul rejigged Roach’s classic into what Briggs described as a “sequel”, called The Children Came Back. Check out the track in full, below.

Briggs rapped confidently over the top of Gurrumul’s typically delicate guitar work, citing numerous inspirational Australians with indigenous backgrounds. “I’m Mundine, I’m Cathy Free[man].. I’m Adam Goodes and Adam should be applauded when he stands up,” Briggs spat.

Briggs also performed his new single The Hunt (below), which also features the talents of Gurrumul. Briggs admitted that he was very surprised when Gurrumul agreed to work with him. “I didn’t think it was gonna happen,” Briggs told triple j hosts Matt Okine and Alex Dyson.

Briggs’ The Hunt is out today.
