US floral retailer 1-800-Flowers has partnered with Robin Thicke in creating a series of bouquets named after Thicke’s tunes. Though one of the first floral retailers ever to offer online service, the company has displayed a surprising shortsightedness in partnering with Thicke during a career low.
The partnership comes as Thicke embarks on the publicity trail to promote his new album, Paula, a self-described plea to the singer’s estranged wife, Paula Patton, to take him back. The album has seen low sales in the UK and was initially reported to have sold less than 54 copies in Australia, though an ARIA representative has since stated actual numbers had yet to be calculated.
The album, whose release followed an ill-fated Twitter Q&A during which the singer was inundated with sarcastic questions about his breakthrough single, Blurred Lines, was a flop in the UK, selling just 530 copies in its opening week, with US sales down considerably from his previous LP.
Despite the heft of criticism currently being lobbed at Thicke and a Twitter campaign largely seen as a PR disaster, Gigwise reports that 1-800-Flowers has teamed up with Thicke to create two special bouquets named after tracks from the singer’s latest album – Get Her Back and Forever Love.
The Get Her Back bouquet will set forlorn lovers back $349.99, whilst Forever Love is for the more economical romantic, priced at $64.99. The flowers, which the site describes as, “Inspired by the music of Robin Thicke… hand-designed by our expert florists and arranged in a ruby red vase to help you express your feelings in the most romantic way possible,” include a free download of Paula.
