Over the last few days, a large part of North America has been plunged into a deep freeze with extreme blizzard-like conditions blanketing homes, roads and highways in mountains of snow and amongst those trapped in by the harrowing conditions are indie rockers Interpol who have been stuck in their tour bus on a snowed-in highway for almost two days.
Specifically, the post-punk revivalists have been caught in the ferocious grips of Buffalo, New York’s record-breaking blizzard which, according to reports, has already claimed the lives of at least eight people. The band were on their way to play a show in Toronto, but informed followers on Twitter that they had to cancel the show because of the bad weather.
That was more than 40 hours ago and they are still stuck on the road. With not much else to do, and a surprisingly decent internet connection despite the storm, the band’s Daniel Kessler and touring member Brandon Curtis, have been live tweeting their winter nightmare, complete with pictures of actual snowploughs trapped in the snow.
“Still trapped yo! Haven’t really moved in 30 hours and we’ve been on the bus for nearly 40 hours. Nutso. Never seen anything like it,” wrote Kessler overnight. “Settling in for another night. Haven’t moved all day. Hoping the expected storm tonight ain’t as bad as predicted,” he added later.
Tour supports Hundred Waters, who were forced to cancel a Letterman performance for tonight, are also stuck in the snow and have also been tweeting about it.
Interpol have added that they are in good spirits, likely thanks in part to the dry food bottle of tequila that feature in one of their pictures. Check out some of Interpol’s and Hundred Waters’ tweets below.
