Just months after the release of their sixth studio album Ghost Stories, Coldplay‘s Chris Martin has announced the band are already working on its followup and has signalled it might serve as the band’s “final” album.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1‘s Zane Lowe, Martin confirmed the album will be titled A Head Full of Dreams and he is treating it as the “final thing we’re doing” adding, “otherwise we wouldn’t put everything into it.” Upon making the announcement he said, “I feel a bit nervous telling you because I didn’t get permission.”
“We right in the middle of it, ” he told Lowe. “It’s our seventh thing and the way we look at it it’s like the last Harry Potter book. That’s not to say there won’t be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something. It was great to go from Ghost Stories right back into the studio. Now, we’re making things that sound different. It’s a very fun time to be in our band.”
Martin also confirmed the band plan on touring behind A Head Full of Dreams when it is released. Apart from a very intimate Sydney show in Australia this year, where they were joined on stage by Kylie Minogue, and a few more shows internationally, Coldplay didn’t officially tour behind their latest album Ghost Stories.
During their brief time in Australia, the band took to the streets of Newtown and with the help of fans recorded a video for the album’s track A Sky Full Of Stars. That video that has drawn comparisons to one released by Aussie band Sticky Fingers last year. Perhaps when his Coldplay duties come to an end, Martin can take up full time beside Bruce Springsteen as official Bono replacements in U2 Minus 1.
