Green Day Guitartist Diagnosed With Treatable Form Of Throat Cancer

Green Day guitarist Jason White has been diagnosed with a type of tonsil cancer. The sad news came directly from the American pop punk band, via an official statement on Facebook, explaining that doctors discovered the cancer during a routine tonsillectomy.

According to the statement, the cancer, thankfully, was caught early and is treatable. The band wrote that White “should make a full and speedy recovery.” It’s been a tough year for Green Day, with bassist Mike Dirnt revealing in May that his wife had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

White is a member of Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s 90s side project Pinhead Gunpowder. He joined Green Day in 1999 as a touring guitarist and officially became the band’s fourth member in 2012. Here’s to wishing White all the best in going forward with his treatment.
