Perth psych rockers Pond have unveiled the trippy new video for the title track of their sixth studio album, Man, It Feels Like Space Again – the clip band member Jay Watson recently told Music Feeds Pond blew their budget on.
Directed and produced by Melbourne based creative duo, Jesse Taylor Smith and Jenna Eriksen, the more than eight minute video features warped vignettes from old kids television shows spliced with animation based on Ben Montero’s playful Man, It Feels Like Space Again cover art.
“I went away and listened to the song about seven hundred times and the concept seemed to naturally descend into a satanic sesame street. Over the next few months co-creator Jenna Eriksen and I spent a lot of time making puppets and costumes while inadvertently sniffing glue,” explains director Jesse Taylor Smith.
“Come to think of it, that might explain some of the nightmares that inspired the second half of the video… If people take anything away from the clip it should be that aliens are real and puppets are people too.”
“It’s amazing,” Jay Watson told Music Feeds about the clip. “But we kind of blew all out money on that,” he adds, which led to their decision to film the clip for the album’s first single Elvis’s Flaming Star on their iPhones.
Pond will play the upcoming Laneway Festival, as well as a sold out album launch headline show at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory and a show at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel, for which only limited tickets are left.
