Vocalist Colin Jeffs has announced his departure from Brisbane deathcore band Aversions Crown, who have already secured Mark Poida from Melbourne band I, Valiance to fill his shoes. Poida has been filling in for Jeffs on the band’s European tour, and will now join the band full-time.
“Colin has decided to step down from his role as our singer,” Aversions Crown posted on Facebook late yesterday AEDT. “Please welcome Mark Poida to the mic who will be stepping up to fill Colin’s very big shoes. If you’ve seen us this year in Australia or Europe, you’ll know that Mark has a huge voice and will be crushing it for us moving forward. Cheers Colin for all the good times!”
Jeffs has also shared a short statement via Aversions Crown’s Facebook page (below), admitting he no longer desires to focus on the band, and has been aware of this feeling for some time. “Friends, unfortunately the time has come for me to part ways with Aversions Crown,” Jeffs posted.
“This is a difficult call for me to make but a necessary one. The band has been my sole focus for the past five years and whilst it has been an amazing experience it has also been a very draining one.”
Jeffs is sitting out Aversions Crown’s European tour due to health issues affecting his voice, and has made it clear that his vocal issues are not the reason for his departure from the band.
“I’ve reached a point in my life where this band is just not what I want to focus on anymore and feel as though if I can’t put 100% of my heart into this I shouldn’t be doing it at all,” Jeffs says. “This decision is not linked to me being absent from the current tour or my recent vocal scare, it’s something I had comes to terms with before these events. Thanks to everyone who has ever supported what I do in any way, it’s been real. Peace.”
Poida’s former band, I, Valiance, have confirmed the singer’s move to Aversions Crown. “Stay posted on what our next move will be,” the band have posted to Facebook. “Thanks for all the support you’ve all given us so far up until this point. We’ll update you guys as soon as possible.”
Aversions Crown supported Devildriver and Whitechapel’s Australian headline dates in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne last year, and previously impressed crowds as part of the Australian Vans Warped Tour in Brisbane. The six-piece will be back in Australia to tour with Psycroptic and Goatwhore in March.
Aversions Crown’s second album Tyrant was released in November. The band have also promised to have new music ready for fans “very soon”.
