Triple j‘s huge regional concert, One Night Stand, is officially taking a gap year in 2015, due to the increased focus the broadcaster has put on its 40th anniversary celebrations, which included Sydney’s massive Beat The Drum concert last month.
In a statement, triple j says it will “still be travelling to music festivals all over the country, including regional areas, to bring you live music and music news, as well as get up close and personal with you guys at triple j parties and special events around Australia”.
The 2014 One Night Stand lineup was announced at the start of March 2014, so triple j has gotten in slightly early this year to announce its plans, or lack thereof, for 2015. The station has not confirmed when the event will return in 2016.
Last year’s One Night Stand in Mildura saw performances from the likes of Illy, Dan Sultan, The Jungle Giants, Violent Soho and RÜFÜS, and was broadcast live on triple j and streamed online.
The free event has seen concerts performed across Australia for the last 11 years, with sets from Flume, Hilltop Hoods, Silverchair, Seth Sentry, Ball Park Music, The Jezabels, The Rubens, John Bulter Trio, The Living End, Birds Of Tokyo, Megan Washington, Art Vs. Science and many more.
Previous One Night Stands have been held in Dubbo, Dalby, Tumby Bay, Alice Springs, Gippsland, Collie, Cowra, Port Pirie, Ayr, and Natimuk.
Triple j is still open to expressions of interest from towns which are keen to host a One Night Stand. Those towns should submit their requests over at the triple j website.
