1,000+ Aussies Collaborate On Free Mardi Gras Charity Single

This weekend, Sydney celebrates the annual gay and lesbian Mardi Gras. To kick off the weekend with a bang, Google Australia have released a free fundraiser single called (If It Ain’t For Everyone) It Ain’t Love, featuring the work of over 1,000 Australians.

The song features high-profile contributions from Megan Washington, The Jezabels, Guy Sebastian and singer-songwriter Toby Martin of Youth Group. But how did so many Aussies from so many walks of life collaborate on the one song?

Well, Google thoughtfully set up a Google Doc at Mardi Gras’ Fair Day, which pooled the public’s lyrical ideas. Then Toby Martin chose his favourite lyrics and turned them into (If It Ain’t For Everyone) It Ain’t Love. Brilliant! The song’s creation is documented in the video below.

Every time (If It Ain’t For Everyone) It Ain’t Love is downloaded for free over at Google Play, the tech giant will donate $1 to nonprofit organisation Twenty10, up to a maximum of $50,000. Twenty10 provides LGBTI youth with emergency housing and support.

The 2015 Sydney gay and lesbian Mardi Gras parade takes place on the city’s Oxford and Flinders Streets tomorrow night. Download the track for free over at Google Play.
