You mofos ready for this? Tasmania’s delectably dark winter festival Dark Mofo has released its full lineup ahead of its third annual nudie run around the island state, adding around 250 acts to the previously announced slot held by from US legends Antony And The Johnsons.
Sublimely aligned around the mid-June winter solstice once again, Dark Mofo is set to host a bevy of music, arts, culture and a selection of those things which refuse to be categorised, over two weeks of bacchanalian revelry.
The music program, which will be housed in the historic Odeon Theatre, sees British art-pop group The Irrepressibles, Arkansas metalheads Pallbearer, sludge metal duo The Body, The Drones frontman Gareth Liddiard, as well as My Disco, Klo, Tiger Choir, and The Preatures.
The newest feature in this year’s festival is the Dark Park at Hobart’s harbourside Macquarie Point, which will see large public artworks including something dangerously exciting called the Fire Organ by German chemo-acoustic engineer Bastiaan Maris as well as a Night Ship, set to lurk around the river throughout the festival. Apparently you’ll “hear it coming”, which is just our kind of creepy.
Winter Feast returns for five nights of hearty consumption, with Dark Mofo Films and an impressive array of contemporary theatre also on the menu.
Closing out Dark Mofo is the traditional Nude Solistice Swim on the no doubt crisp morning of 22nd June, for all those fans of shrinkage out there, but not before the mysterious “late-night ceremonial death dance” curated by Supple Fox, titled Blacklist. Yeah, we’ve got no idea, but we want to go to there.
Check the overwhelming full lineup of acts below. Tickets go on sale 10am Monday 20th April 2015 AEDT at www.darkmofo.net.au.
