Spin Off Festival Will Not Return In 2015

After taking a hiatus last year, Adelaide’s Spin Off Festival — which has been run as a sister festival to Splendour In The Grass — will not being going ahead in 2015.

In a statement to Music Feeds, Craig Lock of Spin Off promoters 5/4 Entertainment says the reason for the extended hiatus is due to logistical problems similar to those which arose last year.

“We need it to run on a weekend, which limits the number of acts available to book,” he said. “We either have to get them to stay in the country for an extra week or somehow organise Spin Off on the same weekend as Splendour. This year it was a case of not being able to secure enough acts to make either of those options work.”

He goes on to say that competing international festivals makes it even harder to get acts to Australia, or to stay in Australia while they’re here, but notes there is hope for 2016.

“It’s an event we will continue to work with the organisers of Splendour on, and consider every year to see which acts are possible to book. If we can get all the stars to align we will certainly do it in the future.”

The 2014 iteration of Spin Off was shelved due to “scheduling conflicts and international demands on artists”. London Grammar were set to perform at the festival, but later cancelled their entire Australian tour, including their slot at Splendour In The Grass, and is believed to be one of the main reasons Spin Off did not go ahead in 2014.

At the time, Lock said the festival had tried to book “a lot of Splendour’s lineup, but they just weren’t able to play”, adding that “making [artists] hang around in Australia for an extra week at that time of year is a big ask”.

This year, 5/4 Entertainment are co-promoting Splendour In The Grass 2015 sideshows from The Wombats and Circa Waves.
