Fresh from announcing his new mixtape Call It What You Want late last month, Melbourne MC Remi has dropped the first taste of his forthcoming release. The track, Weirdos (From Planet HOB), is a smooth new collaboration with Sensible J which samples a Radiohead track.
Weirdos (From Planet HOB) (below) pairs Remi’s rhymes with samples of the guitar work on Radiohead’s Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, as well as the vocals of Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke. Weirdos (From Planet HOB) also incorporates the same drum pattern as the Radiohead song.
Remi says the influence of a wide variety of acts, including Radiohead, has seeped into Call It What You Want. “The new mixtape is a super eclectic collection of sounds and influences that kind of represents a heap of the different things we listen to,” Remi says.
“Certain tracks on there will no doubt surprise a lot of people, but we think that’s a good thing.”
On a thematic level, Remi says Weirdos (From Planet HOB) “is basically about feeling like an outsider in whatever circumstance you’re in, I think a lot of people can relate to that”.
Weirdos (From Planet HOB) can be streamed below and also downloaded for free via Remi’s Bandcamp page. Call It What You Want will arrive on Thursday, 14th May as a free download, before Remi heads out on tour this June.
