Former Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan has penned a new memoir entitled How To Be A Man (And Other Illusions), and he’s just christened it with its own theme song.
The forthcoming book will be accompanied by a three-song EP, led by titular track How To Be A Man which features his old Gunners pal Izzy Stradlin, as well as Alice In Chains frontman Jerry Cantrell and Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga.
The song, which you can check out below thanks to Rolling Stone, is a rugged, mid-tempo cowboy ballad of misspent youth, complete with steel strings and a bluesy slide guitar.
The tune reflects the themes of Duff’s memoir, the follow-up to his critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller It’s So Easy (And Other Lies), which is filled with various pieces of wisdom and life lessons learned while on his path to rock stardom.
“[How To Be A Man (And Other Illusions) is] certainly not an instructional, how-to book,” 51-year-old McKagan tells Rolling Stone. “It’s an observational study and hopefully some humor in there. The ‘Other Illusions’ should be the headline.”
Duff last toured Australia with his band Loaded for Soundwave 2013.
