Kanye West is reportedly in talks with technology giant Apple, who are supposedly hoping to secure an exclusive release from the rapper for their new music streaming service, which is expected to be unveiled at the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference in a matter of hours.
According to Buzzfeed, Beats Music co-founder Jimmy Iovine, who became an Apple employee after the company acquired Beats Music for over USD$3 billion, has been discussing the possibilities with West, who released his latest album, Yeezus, in 2013.
Yeezy, who recently gave his next album the new working title, SWISH, has reportedly been in talks with Apple for some time, but hasn’t come to an agreement, with negotiations between him and Iovine continuing.
What makes West’s discussions with Apple more intriguing is the fact that he is a co-owner of Tidal, Jay-Z’s music streaming service which has copped flack for benefiting wealthy and popular musicians. However, in April this year, West removed references of Tidal from his social media accounts.
Yeezy hasn’t confirmed a release date for his new album, so let’s just hope he doesn’t pull a U2 and give it to all iTunes users for free, whether they wanted it or not.
Buzzfeed maintain that Apple won’t have a Kanye West exclusive by the time they announce their streaming service, but will have a number of exclusives from other big-name artists ready to show off.
