After delighting punters with his band Vampire Weekend at last year’s Falls Festival, Chris Baio is returning to Australia for a pair of solo club shows.
Under his solo monicker Baio, the award winning DJ and producer will visit our shores next month to perform two shows in Sydney and Melbourne, previewing tracks off his highly-anticipated debut album, The Names.
Baio’s new disc features nine self-produced tracks, “written around ideas of space and of belonging, identity and finding a place in the world”, and includes the freshly-released single Sister Of Pearl (below).
The disc’s lead single, Brainwash yyrr Face, was selected for the bitchin’ weekly Faves feature here at Music Feeds a few weeks back by presenter Luke Bodley. He said:
“This song feels like a blustery mishmash of 90s sound artefacts, so much so that I cannot shake a resurfacing image of a prepubescent me playing Pokemon Yellow on my Gameboy Colour”, which is a pretty A-Grade wrap coming from Luke.
The Names is slated for release on Friday, 18th September, while tickets to Baio’s East Coast club shows go on sale from 10am AEST on Friday, 24th July, with a pre-sale for Frontier Touring members kicking off from 2pm, Wednesday, 22nd July.
