The Rolling Stones lead guitarist Keith Richards has revealed that the band plan to start recording their 25th album next year.
Speaking to iHeartRadio (via Fairfax) the 71 year-old veteran said, “I was in London last week, and the boys and I got together, and yeah, there are now definitely plans to record.”
Richards has been on the promo trail for his upcoming solo album Crosseyed Heart which is due for release this Friday, 17th September. It seems, however, everyone wanted to know when a new Rolling Stones record would be coming and Rolling Stone sort of got an answer.
“I would say off the top of my head after the South American tour in February,” he said.
“But you never know. We might try to get into the studio before Christmas. I think that’s sort of doubtful, with Christmas being Christmas, all that buildup. But at the same time, it’s definitely in the works.”
The album would be their first since 2005’s A Bigger Bang and mark the longest gap in between records of their entire career.
Despite not releasing any new music, the band has seemingly been on an endless world tour since they reconnected for their 50th anniversary in 2012. They were last in Australia at the end of 2014 for their 14 On Fire tour and have just finished their Zip Code tour in the US.
