After over a year in hiatus, Bird’s Robe is proud to present the return of one of Sydney’s most exciting experimental acts – Squat Club.
After a busy 2008 during which the band slayed packed audiences at festivals including Peats Ridge, FeatherFest and Déjà vu, the band announced an indefinite break, committing time to work on a posthumous debut album release whilst members scattered the globe. With the recent completion of their album, the band have reconvened for two shows only.
The album launch will take place on Feb 20th at Sydney’s Live at the Wall, The Bald Faced Stag, with support from prog rock giants Pirate, the psychedelic maelstrom that is Captain Kickarse and the Awesomes & the ethereal Bessom. The launch will be preceded by a special Valentine’s Day show for progressive minded couples at the Annandale Hotel, also featuring the live return of the stellar Darth Vegas and local heroes Fuji Collective and Slimey Things.
Squat Club’s eclectic mix of technical groove rock has drawn accolades from local fans across the country. Inspired as much by the epic, intricate prog of King Crimson and Pink Floyd as by modern tech rockers Battles, The Mars Volta and Meshuggah, the album features over 70 minutes of uniquely progressive material, produced and recorded by the band themselves.
Squat Club’s self professed aim is to ensure that “one of our 15min+ pieces is to be used in an extended nappy commercial in it’s entirety, synced artistically with comprehensive and demonstrative visuals.” Bring your nappies – sure to be a highlight of 2010, these rare shows are not to be missed.
