The Art have announced an Australian tour starting in July. Formerly known as the Follow, They changed their name when they relocated to the US in 2008.
From the press release:
Since returning from the US late last year, The Art (formerly The Follow) has supported Marilyn Manson and Them Crooked Vultures, gained a spot in this year’s Big Day Out and were even handpicked by Kim Deal and Frank Black to tour with The Pixies for their Australia and NZ tour.
The Art is now set to jump on board to support 30 Seconds To Mars and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (both selected shows only) as well as embarking on a nationwide headlining tour.
The group started as Sydney-based band The Follow, and received underground success with their debut album, Empty Orchestra, and tours with Sonic Youth and Nine Inch Nails.
Their name change came about upon relocation to the US in 2008. As lead singer Azaria puts it, “It was psychologically a good thing to change the name, to move on from the old songs”. Their EP Hope You’re Happy, produced by Nick Launay (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nice Cave, INXS) received critical media recognition.
Predominantly based in Los Angeles, The Art has taken the US by storm, travelling all across the nation playing sell-out shows in The Troubadour, The Viper Room and Spaceland and showcase gigs at the SXSW Festival (with Amanda Palmer, The Drones, The Grates).
Their success caught the eye of Richard Bishop, who signed The Art onto 3AM (Three Artist Management), and now co-manages the band with LA booker and former Guns N’ Roses manager Vicky Hamilton.
The Art has recorded their first album Here Comes The War, with Frenchie Smith (Jet, Trail of Dead, Dandy Warhols). The lead single ‘I Wanna Know’ has been receiving spot rotation on Triple J and community radios nationwide, and the album will be released later in the year.
