5 Seconds Of Summer‘s Michael Clifford seems to be the pop-punk equivalent of the female lead in any rom-com from the past two decades.
The guitarist is super pretty, has perfect hair and is also a huge klutz.
After an unfortunate incident last year that saw him step too close to pyrotechnics and accidentally catch fire, the Sydney string-slinger has now found himself in the wars during a 5SOS performance at BBC Radio 1’s Teen Awards, inadvertently kamikaze-ing off the edge of the stage.
As NME reports, Clifford was performing live with his bandmates at the SSE Wembley Arena in London when he stepped too close to a pit in front of the stage, and fell in.
It all happened in a split-second, but Clifford quickly climbed out again to continue the performance without any major Dave Grohl-esque injuries. Although he did report on Twitter that he’d be on crutches “for the next few days”.
The guitarist also tweeted “WHY DO I ALWAYS HURT MYSELF”, no doubt in reference to the whole setting-himself-on-fire thing.

He later blamed the show’s babin’ host Rita Ora for the accident, telling Radio 1: “I was looking at Rita Ora and I was like… ‘hey’… and I fell.”
One Direction were the big winners at the UK awards show, picking up the gongs for Best British Group and best British Single for Drag Me Down, while Ed Sheeran was named Best British Solo Artist.
5SOS, meanwhile, recently released their sophomore LP, Sounds Good Feels Good.
