The unfolding drama between Deerhunter and William Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins has arrived at an interesting new chapter.
Here’s a quick recap – this week, Corgan’s lawyer threatened to sue Brad Cox, after the Deerhunter frontman made some allegations about the Pumpkin going spack at him over a water bottle one time.
Cox then apologised to Billy for dredging up the past at a time when he was clearly going through some shit with the death of his friend, Scott Weiland.
Now, the Deerhunter singer has taken another dig at the Corgenator, this time through song.
During the band’s Sunday gig in Philadelphia, he transformed the opening riff from The Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream hit Today into a 10-minute noise-pop improv and capped it off with some Corgan-themed spoken word.
As such: (via Stereogum):
Dear Billy Corgan/ I don’t even know you man/ Please don’t sue me/ I love my dog/ And I don’t have that much money/ And I don’t think you’re the kind of person/ Who’d starve somebody’s dog/ Just to prove a point
Enjoy the footage below.
Sidebar: Cox begins the song by asking the crowd not to record the performance, and ends it by saying, “Whoever uploads that to YouTube can suck my dick.” So congratulations YouTube user boz888, you can officially suck Bradford Cox’s dick.
