UPDATE 05/01/16: Guns N’ Roses have been announced on the 2016 Coachella lineup.
After a long string of rumours, it appears the classic Guns N’ Roses lineup is planning a stadium tour and has already landed a headline set at the 2016 Coachella Music & Arts Festival in California.
As Billboard reports, multiple sources have confirmed that GNR’s longtime members Axl Rose and Slash will reunite for the band’s Coachella performance, and the group are said to be negotiating to play up to 25 stadiums as part of a North American tour in the American summer of 2016.
According to Billboard‘s sources, the reformed GNR are asking for as much as USD$3 million (AUD$4.1 million) per show, leaving ticket prices as high as USD$275 (AUD$377). The reformed GNR is also reportedly set to be one of the first acts to play the new Las Vegas Arena, which is set to open on 6th April.
Axl Rose and Slash last played a GNR show together in July 1993, in Buenos Aires. The band’s reunion is expected to feature both men, as well as bassist Duff McKagan, who earlier this week tweeted a picture (below) of himself playing bass with the caption “LAMF” (Like A Motherfucker), which was displayed on his amp during GNR’s Use Your Illusion tours and in the music video for Yesterdays.
Reports of GNR’s tour plans and Coachella set come after reunion rumours were fueled earlier this week by a mysterious trailer which appeared before screenings of the latest Star Wars film, as well as the band adding their old logo to their website.
Coachella has hosted a number of big reunions over the years, including Rage Against The Machine in 2007, My Bloody Valentine in 2009, Pulp in 2012 and Outkast in 2014. If Guns N’ Roses make theirs in 2016, it will no doubt be a huge year for the event and the super-psyched GNR fans across the globe.
