Prince performed his fourth and final show in Melbourne last night and celebrated by making his way to a Melbourne afterparty at Docklands’ Aria Bar which obviously sent fans who wanted to catch him on the dancefloor into a frenzy.
The venue stated Facebook yesterday that they had turned the venue purple for “someone,” hinting at the Purple Rain singer who eventually turned up at the venue after his shows, leaving fans lining up outside the venue until all hours.
Aria took to Facebook once again just after 3am with photos of fans still queuing outside the venue to get in and hopefully have a star encounter.
One lucky punter who did get inside tweeted, “When ur at a private afterparty and u find urself dancing with Prince. Priceless.” Another punter took to Facebook thanking the venue for “an afterparty where Prince gets funky with the crowd.”
Unfortunately for Prince, he was one day early to indulge in Aria’s Thursday parma night where for only $10 you can grab yourself a schnitty and salad.
Just last week Prince was asking for suggestions of where to host the Melbourne afterparty with the responses ranging from a beach party to one of the city’s favourite venues The Toff In Town.
Prince is still to head to Sydney, Perth and Aukland but so far there has been a little bit of controversy surrounding his shows. Many expected to get a two hour show, however, the audiences of his first two Melbourne shows were only treated to 80 minutes. For one of the shows he began Purple Rain but walked off before it ended, never returning to the stage.
Mind you, these shows took place just hours after Prince learned of the death of his one-time love interest Vanity (real name Denise Katrina Matthews), who he mentored in the ’80s as the lead singer of his self-assembled girl group Vanity 6.
Still, there is plenty of praise for the legend. He’s been posting some of the praise for his show on his Twitter, with one saying he was “superb” and another calling him the “greatest of all time”.

SPECIAL TICKETING ARRANGEMENTS:
Ticket purchases for the show will be limited to two (2) tickets per person via the venues and ticketing companies noted above. No tickets will be distributed. At the time of purchase, the purchaser’s name will be recorded and a corresponding receipt issued. Physical tickets will only be available for collection from noon on the night of the concert. Photo ID will be required to match the name previously advised and individuals will be wrist-banded before entering the auditorium.
