UPDATE 27/05/16: The Strokes have dropped a new EP titled Future Present Past, featuring three new songs and a remix. Stream the whole EP right here.
ORIGINAL STORY: Exciting news as it seems that a new single from original hipsters The Strokes is imminent, ahead of an as yet to be revealed release date.
The news comes following a tweet from CEO of music media company Nue Agency Jesse Kirshbaum that stated he was listening to a new single from the group. The tweet was fast deleted, but as Consequence of Sound reports, sources with knowledge of the band’s plans have confirmed the single exists. While the timetable for release is unknown, although it is expected soon.
News of the single comes after the band were seen in a recording studio in Monterrey Mexico late last year where they were reportedly recording new material. This would be the first new music from the band since 2013’s Comedown Machine.
While hopes were high the band would debut new material at the recent SXSW shows, the band have chosen to keep the their cards close to their chests on this one, playing instead an intimate show of fan favourites, COS reports.
Looks like the next chance we’ll get to peak at their hand with be New York City’s Governors Balls Music Festival in June. Set to headline, organisers have said they booked the band due to the likelihood they’d be supporting a new album.
The band and their representatives however have remained tight lipped on the prospect of any new material in the immediate future, refusing to comment in response to inquiries from media.
In the meantime why don’t we revisit the band’s glory days with this choice video of them performing Reptilia live on Late Nite with Conan O’Brien.
