Bernie Sanders couldn’t be trending any more right now, but it seems his campaign staff have upped it a notch in announcing Berniechella, a mini-festival to be held leading into the second weekend of Coachella. If only there was a Tonewave.
Tickets at Coachella can set punters back a fair bit; a general admission ticket for the three days costs $US 400. So, in line with Sanders’ policy of free college tuition, this block part is a free event.
In terms of a lineup, DJs Shepard Farley and Zoe Kravitz are scheduled to scratch up, with Ozomatli and Alex Ebert, headlining the other performing musical acts. In addition to music, beer gardens, food stalls and art installations will also be offered at the this political party.
Interestingly, organisers can’t actually confirm whether Sanders himself will be in attendance. “Obviously California is a very important state when it comes to electoral votes. At this point, we don’t know yet. But we’ll certainly welcome him and be ready for him,” Coachella Mayor Steven Hernandez said.
Sanders is currently trailing in the polls behind Hilary Clinton in the race to become the Democratic Party’s nominee in the presidential election. He does, however, have a rather impressive list of endorsements from the music world, including Steve Aoki, Julian Casablancas, Miley Cyrus, David Draiman, Killer Mike, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Amanda Palmer and Neil Young.
