The International Songwriting Competition has announced its list of winners for 2016, with four Aussie artists taking first place in five nominated competition categories.
36 Australian acts were nominated across a variety of categories in the ISC which judges submissions based on a range of criteria including creativity, originality, melody, arrangement and overall likability.
Judging this year’s competition was a veritable red carpet of music, including Avicii, Tom Waits, Lorde, Hardwell, Bastille, Kesha, Boys II Men and Moby.
Whilst no Australian act was able to follow up Vance Joy – who took out the competition’s grand price in 2015, – several acts including Flight Facilities, Meg Mac, Birds Of Tokyo and Hailey Calvert took first place in their category.
Flight Facilities won top gong in the EDM category for their collaboration with Emma Louise Two Bodies, whilst also taking out best music video for Clair de Lune. In the Adult Album Alternative category Meg Mac stood up with her single Never Be, and Birds Of Tokyo won the rock category. Brisbane-hailing Blues singer-songwriter Hailey Calvert also took first place for Blues music.
Two other Aussies placed in the top three of their nomination category, with Tropical Zombie coming third for Waterslides in the Rock section, while Dustin Tebutt placed third in Folk/Singer-Songwriter for his track Silk (featuring Thelma Plum).
The accolades didn’t end there, with Seth Sentry, Stone Parade, Glades, Bec Laughtin & Sam De Jong all gaining Honorable Mentions.
