There have been a vast number of musicians who’ve spoken out against North Carolina’s controversial anti-LGBTQ laws.
The state introduced the HB2 bill earlier this year, and since then a whole host of artists have either cancelled tours or come out in support of those whom the law discriminates against.
The bill itself prevents people who identify with a different gender from that which they were born from using public toilets that they wish.
Now, Animal Collective have announced that the proceeds from shows that took place in Los Angeles and Manchester will go to Progress NC – a non-for-profit company fighting for progressive causes in the state.
They also decided to go ahead with their North Carolina show yesterday as they felt that was the best way to raise awareness for the issue.
“We felt that canceling our show, like many others have done in protest of this law, would be a disappointment to our fans and decided to go on with the performance,” said the band in a statement. “That being said, we don’t condone or agree with any type of bigotry or discrimination.”
The two live albums are available as a purchasable download, with punters able to donate whatever amount they wish.
