The Monkees have announced they’ll be bringing their 50th anniversary tour to Australia. Kicking off in December, OGs Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork will be bringing the very same tour that has resulted in scores of sold out shows all throughout the North America marking the second coming of Monkee-Mania.
Introduced to most of today’s youth like most things from the ’60s and ’70s – via a reference in The Simpsons – The Monkees managed to penetrate the zeitgeist like few others well before the internet. Crazy, right?
What began as a show about struggling musicians inspired by The Beatles’ A Hard Day Night turned into a cult movement that’s difficult to explain to millennials. Like Limp Bizkit times 100.
The band has enjoyed a mental 102 weeks in the pointy end of the charts. Most of that was accumulated off the back of their self-titled debut The Monkees. The love for the band would stay strong right up until their latest record Good Times.
102 weeks would almost be about as much time was the band was actually together, with members eventually separating and re-joining for causes, including the passing of founding member Davey Jones.
