Clear the way for the Prophets Of Rage.
The politically-charged supergroup, composed of three-quarters of Rage Against The Machine plus Cypress Hill’s B-Real and Public Enemy’s Chuck D, have just unleashed their debut single – a fierce update on their namesake AKA Public Enemy’s original 1988 anthem, Prophets Of Rage.
Opening with a wall of sirens and whispers of “Clear the way”, the track punches in with trademark Tom Morello groove riffage before Chuck D dives in with a fierce retake of the It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back track’s opening verse.
And after a chorus similarly inspired by the original, B-Real unloads a few new bars of his own, rapping a new mission statement: “People hungry and tired/ They ain’t got a home/ This is the nature created for the Terrordome/ Turn the stage, I’mma burn the stage / Clear the way for the Prophets of Rage.”
The song is set to feature on the supergroup’s upcoming EP, slated to drop later this year.
Described by Morello as an “elite task force of revolutionary musicians determined to confront this mountain of election year bullshit,” Prophets Of Rage have thrashed out their debut track ahead of planned guerrilla (radio?) gigs in the US this week for the Republican National Convention, where the band have vowed to basically fuck shit up for Donald Trump and his cronies in their bid to #MakeAmericaRageAgain.
