Our Last Enemy are playing the final ever Club Blink show on the 18th. This sad occasion can only be dealt with in one way-with ear bleeding metal being blasted out of the P.A speakers one last time. With a new album and steady stream of shows lined up, I spoke to the guys about their memories of Blink nightclub.
Music Feeds: What’s been happening lately for Our Last Enemy?
Our Last Enemy: We just completed our huge Australia/New Zealand tour for the launch of our album. Which was released on Riot!/Warner in October. We have a series of headline shows at festivals and clubs in March and we are gearing up for another east coast headline tour in April. We also have plans for overseas touring being booked as we speak. We have just started writing new material with our new members, exciting times!
MF: Give our readers a quick history lesson on Our Last Enemy?
OLE: Started in 2007 from the ashes of two prominent Sydney bands, we toured relentlessly across Australia and released an EP which sold out three pressings. Lucky enough to get signed to Australia’s biggest hard rock/metal label and went to LA to record with Christian Olde Wolbers of Fear Factory. Scored some killer international support slots and played to thousands of people. Most recently we acquired 2 new members who have raised the bar for us, namely BIZZ of legendary Florida band Genitortures (Dave Vincent from Morbid Angels other band).
MF: How’s it feel to play the last Club Brink ever?
OLE: Honoured, as we all have been punters since day one! We have also played some important shows for us at the club, including our first EP launch which sold out!
MF: What have been some of your fondest memories of Blink?
OLE: Definitely the huge EP launch at Agincourt in the basement. We have some classic memories of partying in Kings Cross…and the seedy alleys… The coolest was probably playing the NYE show at Blink the night before we flew to LA to record the album. We literally played to a full house, drank ourselves’ silly, and caught a never-ending flight to the other side of the world…painful and exciting…brutal!
MF: What can we expect from your set at the last Blink show?
OLE: An intense show that only Our Last Enemy can do…we will send it out the way it should go…with a BANG…and maybe some blood…
MF: Who have been your favourite acts to play at Blink?
OLE: Frankenbok, MM9, Tourettes, Voltera, Anxiety Whispers… Lots of killer Australian bands have done great shows at the club.
MF: What would be the first song you’d put onto a mix tape?
OLE: At the moment it would be a toss up between Dimmu Borgir – Puritania and The Prodigy – Spit Fire. Smash up the dance floor!
MF: How should Blink be remembered?
OLE: Love it or hate it, it’s been a mainstay in the Australian alternative scene for 12 years. A place for people to go ‘clubbing’ with out having to listen to the same dance crap played at every other club.
Club Blink celebrates 12 years with their final show on March 18th with Our Last Enemy and Buried In Verona. It should be a massive party, get down there to soak it in one last time.
