The first weekend of Desert Trip, the golden oldies version of Coachella, has just wrapped up in the US and it brought with it one very special collaboration.
Paul McCartney and Neil Young were the two artists billed on the second day of the festival (each day only had two artists) and they jumped up on stage together for three songs.
During McCartney’s massive, career-spanning set, Young joined him on stage for two Beatles classics and a John Lennon song. They performed A Day In The Life, which Young has performed many times before, and also The Beatles’ Why Don’t We Do It in the Road? for the first time live together.
Lennon’s Give Peace a Chance also received the Young and McCartney treatment.
By all reports, Young coming up on stage was one of the sets highlights but it’s pretty hard not to be impressed by McCartney’s entire setlist. He packed in stacks of Beatles songs as well as his own solo material and even found room for FourFiveSeconds, his 2015 collab with Rihanna and Kanye West.
The Californian festival will also happen next weekend bringing Young and McCartney as well as The Who, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Roger Waters back to the desert.
Young will be in Australia earlier next year for a headline set at Bluesfest as well as his own headline tour.
