UPDATE 18/10/16: The remaining acts on the Golden Plains 2017 lineup have been announced.
Original Story: Conceived during a time of massive social and political unrest, The Specials became a mouthpiece for the disillusioned party class. Now, in the wake of yet more social and political unrest, the band is back and heading down under for Meredith’s beloved annual Golden Plains festival.
Made up of a small and culturally diverse crowd, The Specials not only gave voice to the voiceless, but also championed the sonic movement 2 Tone, a fusion of mod, punk, new wave, pub rock and ska. For two-and-a-half glorious years, the band fought the good fight, dropping seven top 10 singles in the process.
Come 2008, The Specials reformed for their 30th anniversary. There, they were joined by longtime fan and devotee Amy Winehouse. Now, following a huge gap between drinks, the band are back and hitting the stages of The Sup’ on the Sunday evening of Golden Plains 2017.
The Specials are just the second act to be confirmed for next year’s festival, so they’ll be joining the great Neil Finn until a more encompassing announcement drops.
