Former TISM frontman Damian Cowell has enlisted the help of Henry Rollins, The Chaser’s Andrew Hanson, comedian Tony Martin and more for a whacky music video for his new single ‘Come On Waleed’, which literally sings the praises of muso/journalist/The Project co-host Waleed Aly.
The video for ‘Come On Waleed’, which also stars musician Liz Stringer, Angie and Yvie from Gogglebox and a bunch of randoms, puts forward the case for why Aly is still an all-round top bloke, and it’s capped off by some pretty daggy dance moves.
The song itself is laced with references to disgraced public figures like Rolf Harris, Bill Cosby, Lance Armstrong and Gary Glitter, and packs inspiring Waleed-related lines like, “All my heroes they turned into Satan / You’re my new renaissance man and so I’m supplicating / Come on Waleed don’t go changin’ on me.”
“‘Come On Waleed’ is about all my heroes going down the S bend,” Cowell says.
“While all else falls, Waleed’s left standing like the last person in musical chairs. He’s ubiquitous in the media, yet he’s got a brain and he’s not a fuckwit. Who’d have thought it possible?”
‘Come On Waleed’ will appear on the new album from Damian Cowell’s Disco Machine, titled Get Yer Dag On!. The record, which also features the likes of Adalita, The Bennies, Josh Pyke, Regurgitator’s Quan Yeomans, Henry Wagons, Ella Hooper and Myf Warhurst, is set for release in the summer of 2017.
