The multi-talented Mr. Matt Okine has resurfaced in a blaze of glory after dropping the mic on his longtime gig hosting triple J breakfast with Alex Dyson, and his first move since abdicating the AM radio throne has been to bring the BPM with a brand new *legit* hip-hop track.
That’s right, one half of Matt & Alex, who brought us such thigh-slapping joke-raps as ‘Doin’ Numbers’, has unfurled another deadly-serious new song as part of new his project Boilermakers, a collab with Paul “Dinnertime” Duke.
Dubbed ‘Jesus Age’, the fiery new track is packing some Desiigner/Future vibes with a melodic hook and a flow that builds in intensity and venom.
Giving it a 3.5 star rating on triple J Unearthed, the station’s Music Director/big kahuna Richard Kingsmill joked: “Where have I heard that voice before?”
Top bantz, Dick.
The track comes hot on the heels of Okine’s first legitimate rap single ‘Fade (Nothing At All)’ which he dropped prior to saying smell-ya-later to the J’s.
“I’ve always held back a bit because of the ‘comedy’ thing,” he said at the time, revealing that the C1 Beats-produced track was part of a new EP he’d been putting together.
“People aren’t gonna expect much, and I’m cool with that because this is the first time I’ve taken it seriously too.”
Catch serious rapper Matt Okine’s latest jam below. And who knows? At this rate we may end up hearing his familiar tones back on the J-waves sooner than we thought, although maybe not in the way that we expected…
