A special set of David Bowie stamps created by the British Royal Mail have been launched into space.
The Guardian reports 52 sets of stamps were sent up into the upper stratosphere using a series of helium balloons to pay tribute to Bowie’s role in 1976 film ‘The Man Who Fell To Earth’, with the 52 sets matching the years of his career as a musician.
Featured stamps included various Bowie album covers with Heroes, Aladdin Sane, Let’s Dance, Earthling, Blackstar and more among the stamps launched.
The balloons were released from a flight that reached 34,100m at a vertical speed of about 12mph. The stamps will begin to desencd after the balloons burst at a speed of nearly 200mph.
There’s a competitive element to the stunt as well, with fans who can guess where the stamps will fall to earth in the running to win limited edition first day covers.
