Evanescence have announced a new album called Synthesis which will see them rework songs from their back catalogue, as well as debuting some new material.
Frontwoman Amy Lee posted a video to Facebook explaining the thought behind the record, describing it as “orchestral” and “electronic”.
“We’re taking our music, stripping out the big distorted guitars, stripping out the rock drums and replacing it with full orchestration in a completely synthetic world of beats and sounds,” she said about the album.
“We’ve gone through our entire catalog of music and picked out the songs that are made to be heard in this way, and we’re sewing them together from the ground up.”
She was quick to clear up that the album was not a “remix” LP because they’ve completely rebuilt the songs.
They’ve redone each song, “From the ground up, with different tempos, with different parts, with intros and outros and segues and new pieces, and putting this all together like one big piece of music, like one big classical piece, or sort of like a soundtrack. Actually, in a lot of ways, it sounds a lot like the soundtrack of my life.”
While it will mostly consist of old material, reworked, there are also two completely new songs on the record which will be the band’s first new material since last year’s B-sides album Lost Whispers.
In support of the album, the band will also embark on a tour with a full orchestra, but no Australian tour dates have been announced just yet.
On top of Evanescence, Lee has been busy with her own solo material. She returned earlier this year with a sweeping original called ‘Love Exists’.
