Former Deep Purple bassist/vocalist and Rock N’ Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Glenn Hughes has announced a 2017 Australian tour which will see him perform some of the band’s biggest hits at huge shows around the country.
This September, Hughes and his backing band — Jeff Kollman, Lachy Doley and Pontus Engborg — will hit up venues in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane, where they’ll revisit some of Deep Purple’s best-known songs for the first time in over four decades.
Hughes played his last show with Deep Purple in March 1976, after joining the band in 1973.
“Most Purple fans rank Burn and Stormbringer among the greatest albums the band ever made, in any incarnation,” he says. “Over that Mk III period, we were also performing Mk II classics like ‘Smoke On The Water’ and ‘Highway Star’ every night on massive world tours.
“I’m incredibly excited to get out there and play tracks like ‘Burn’, ‘Mistreated’, ‘Stormbringer’ and ‘Getting Tighter’, as well as some of those older songs that helped define the genre.”
Deep Purple last toured Australia in 2013, when they were joined by fellow rock legends Journey.
