Notorious hip-hop identity Marion ‘Suge’ Knight has been arraigned in an LA courtroom for allegedly threatening to kill director F. Gary Gray over his portrayal in the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton.
The Death Row records founder is accused of texting Gray the death threat back in 2014, ironically because he was upset about his overly aggressive portrayal in the film.
According to the grand jury indictment, Gray feared for his life after the interaction.
“It is further alleged that the threatened crime, on its face and under the circumstances in which it was made, was so unequivocal, unconditional, immediate and specific as to convey to Felix Gary Gray a gravity of purpose and an immediate prospect of execution,” the indictment read.
“It is further alleged that the said Felix Gary Gray was reasonably in sustained fear of his safety and the safety of his immediate family.”
However, as Rolling Stone reports, Knight has entered a plea of Not Guilty to the charges.
He’s currently behind bars awaiting a trial for murder following a hit and run back in January 2015, and has previously accused Dr. Dre of hiring a hitman to kill him.
The former mogul’s reps have slammed his portrayal in Compton in the past, claiming it was “exaggerated and silly and ridiculous”.
Suge is set to be immortalised onscreen once again in the upcoming Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me, and will front court again on August 10th ahead of his murder trial in January 2018.
