Ryan Adams has apologised after catapulting a hot load of shade grenades at Father John Misty this past weekend.
ICYMI: Adams basically declared war on his fellow muso by unleashing an ugly Twitter rant, slagging Misty with some Gallagher-worthy disses, including calling him a “self-important asshole” and “Sir Fuckhead”.
Responding cantankerously to a tweet from Austin City Limits festival promoting Father John’s upcoming appearance in October, Adams jibed: “It’s so wonderful you booked the most self-important asshole on Earth to ‘break it all down for us’ while he does his Nick Cave impression.”
He also referred to Misty as “Elton Josh”, likening him to a “sh*t Elton John but if he was just sitting in a corner staring at his hands on LSD” in a series of since-deleted tweets.
FJM soon responded to the barbs by posting a video to his Facebook page, in which he trolled: “Hey! …Ryan Adams just called me the most IMPORTANT asshole on Earth!”
The whole thing came after an incident back in 2015 where FJM took it upon himself to upload his best cover of Adams’ covering Taylor Swift in order to take “this dude to task for what I saw as a grotesque stunt and matching it with another grotesque stunt”.
Whether or not Adams is still sore about that remains to be seen, but he’s since apologised for this weekend’s venomous tirade at any rate.
“I’m human & I have bad days,” he wrote on Instagram alongside a snap of a cat sprawled out on a rug. “It happens. I apologise. I took a deep breath & remembered I can always do better.
“As a human I am never going to be done working towards being more compassionate, peaceful and open. So I leave this here as a reminder. I am very tired but it’s no excuse to be cruel to others, even if they have shown me that same meanness. It is better to love.”
