Music Feeds Faves – 29/09/17

The Music Feeds team is ready to wax lyrical about tunes we’re digging and show how ~cool~ we are when dropping that new music knowledge. Here we’ve wrangled together the fresh new songs that made an impact on us, for the ultimate new music playlist. It’s Music Feeds Faves!

King Krule – ‘Dum Surfer’

Earlier this month, new music from 23-year-old UK lad Archy Marshall (aka King Krule) oozed out in the form of the Frankenstein’s monster that is ‘Dum Surfer’.

The first single from Marshall’s upcoming new album The OOZ, the track is an agitated mix of jazz, hip hop, lounge, surf rock and grunge, complete with Marshall’s typically poetic narratives about havin’ a “slash” and his brain being “mash”.

Paired with a zombified music video, the track has a cheeky darkness to it, and you can’t help smiling through it even though it’s bleak as hell.

The OOZ is set for release on 13th October, as the follow-up to Marshall’s previous King Krule album 6 Feet Beneath The Moon. / Tom Williams, News Editor

PLANET – Aching Dream

The latest single from Sydney outfit Planet seems purpose-built for late-night, arm-in-arm, whiskey-soaked sing-a-longs. The type that come after the house party vibes have peaked and you’re nostalgically reminiscing about life lessons with your housemate’s co-worker’s girlfriend of two months, who, you know, just seems to get you. Singer Matty Took pleads with passion and desperation – “If you can’t breathe/ I won’t stay” – as the ballad builds, steadily, his Britpop-esque vocals (think ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’) surrounded by a cacophony of guitars. It’s the kind of sad that’s also just a little bit hopeful.

Planet will be taking the new track out for a spin at a series of shows next month. Their debut EP is expected later this year. / Nastassia Baroni, Managing Editor

Burden Man – ‘Flesh Prison’

Sydney’s dark folk minstrel Burden Man has returned to spoil your long weekend with the depressing reminder that death is inevitable. The latest sobering dose of his Shadows Of The Dying EP is dubbed ‘Flesh Prison’ and comes packing his most visually stunning and darkly disturbing video to date, featuring the singer tangled in nooses as his body decays. Forget Stephen King’s IT, if you want nightmares this summer then watch Burden Man’s new ‘Flesh Prison’ clip or catch him live on tour across the country. / Emmy Mack, Senior Staff Writer

Joyride – Aunty Tracey’s Cookies (Video)

There’s not much more I can say here. It’s Joyride, baked goods, an award-winning Aussie chef and some ~special~ pasta. Joyride knows what the people want. / Nastassia Baroni, Managing Editor
