Hear The Wombats’ Drake-Droppin’ New Song ‘Turn’

The Wombats have dropped another new track off their forthcoming album Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, and it was inspired in part by Drake.

‘Turn’ is the second taste of the album due for release next year, and it’s a song that frontman Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy knew had “something kind of special” very early on in the process.

“I was just like okay this feels great let’s chill out and let’s not freak out and we’ll slowly pick away at it for a couple of weeks and then yeah that’s what happened,” he told Beats 1‘s Zane Lowe about the track.

The finished product manages to name drop Drake with the lyric, “Listening to Drake at your best friends swimming pool,” which is actually inspired by a true story.

“Yeah I was yeah kind of having a weird day and my wife put on Views,” he said, referring to Drake’s 2016 record.

“We just sat kind of by our pool listening to that and we had like an inflatable flamingo in those inflatable mushroom and stuff and it was kind of there was a lot of kind of imagery from that day which felt good to use for a song.”

The full album will be out on 9th February and Murph says that it’s, “completely done.” It looks like we may be seeing the band in the country shortly after that too. Murph may have revealed to Music Feeds contributor Sally McMullen in a recent interview that they will be back for Splendour In The Grass next year.
