Shocking footage has emerged after a DJ died and a number of festival-goers were injured when a stage collapsed at Brazil’s Atmosphere Festival on the weekend.
30-year-old DJ Kaleb Freitas, who was performing at the Porto Alegre festival on Sunday, died after the stage he was performing on collapsed during a storm.
Freitas was reportedly rushed to hospital with head injuries following the collapse, but died soon after. Three audience members were also injured in the incident.
Footage of the collapse (below) shows the stage buckling in high wind, which organisers say led to the stage collapse.
Atmosphere Festival went ahead despite warnings from authorities about dangerous weather conditions, including “gale-force winds and torrential rain”.
Atmosphere Festival has issued a statement (originally in Portuguese), which reads:
“We always cherish the security of our audience, following all the processes, reports and authorizations requested by the local authorities. And to our audience we will keep them informed of all our actions to keep the truth about the facts that have occurred.
“We’re sorry, we lost a friend, an artist. Our priority is to assist the wounded and their families. We thank the military brigade and the fire department for all assistance.”
