Former drummer of The Cure, Andy Anderson, has reportedly passed away at the age of 68.
Anderson, who sat behind the kit for the iconic British goth rock group between 1983 and 84, recently announced via Facebook that he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
“Hi guys, I am and I have Terminal 4 Cancer, and there is no way of returning back from that, it’s totally covering the inside of my body, and I’m totally fine and aware of my situation,” Anderson wrote in the post.
“Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy will be discussed over the next few days,” he continued. “Hopefully I’ll be able to get back to get to you in the next few days about the outcome, and please, no boo-hooing here, just be positive. For me it’s just another life experience and hurdle, that one has to make yet another choice in life.”
Founding Cure member, Lol Tolhurst, confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: “It’s with a heavy heart, I have to report the passing of a Cure brother. Andy Anderson was A true gentleman and a great musician with a wicked sense of humour which he kept until the end, a testament to his beautiful spirit on the last journey. We are blessed to have known him.”
In a follow-up tweet, Tolhurst revealed that Anderson passed away peacefully in his home.
In happier news, The Cure will be coming to Sydney this May to perform a series of shows as part of VIVID Live festival, in honour of the 30th anniversary of their iconic album, Disintegration.

So Cindy and I just heard from some friends who were there with Andy as he passed at 5:57 pm UK time today. It is a small measure of solace to learn that he went peacefully at his home.
