Christ almighty. After endless teases, rumours and almost-was-but-not-really’s, the release date for Childish Gambino‘s Guava Island is locked in and it’s this Saturday. On top of that, we know where to watch it – Amazon Prime.
A trailer for the film was shown at Gambino’s Pharos Festival in New Zealand last year. Then, fans thought it might also be a visual album. Then, YouTube revealed – and un-revealed – that it would stream the film as part of its Coachella streaming this weekend.
But, now the man himself as confirmed that the film will drop on Amazon Prime for free, and Vanity Fair says that it’ll be free for 18 hours from 12:01am Pacific Time Saturday, 12th April (which is 5:01pm AEST Saturday, 12th April). On top of that, turns out Coachella will in fact be streaming the film on YouTube from 5:00pm Pacific Time Saturday, 12th April (which is 10am AEST Sunday, 13th April).

As for the film itself, Pitchfork says the official description for the film reads “on Guava Island, a local musician is determined to throw a festival for everyone to enjoy.” It is also, apparently, a “tropical thriller.”
As previously reported, the film stars both Gambino and Rihanna, but it also stars Black Panther star Letitia Wright. It is directed by Hiro Murai, who frequently collaborates with Gambino on his show Atlanta.
