Very sad news today as two people have been found dead inside a tent at Queensland’s Rabbits Eat Lettuce festival, which took place over the weekend at Elbow Valley.
According to ABC, emergency services were called to the scene at around 9:30 this morning when the bodies of a 24 year old man and 22 year old woman were discovered in a tent.
According to Guardian, a police spokesman has said that the deaths are not suspicious, and dismissed rumours that a tree had fallen on to the two victims. Police are currently investigating whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the deaths, and stated that a toxicology report will be prepared for the coroner.
The festival released a statement on Facebook today, saying that the wellbeing and safety of their punters is their highest priority.
“All of the staff and community at Rabbits Eat Lettuce would like to pass on our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of those who were found deceased,” the statement reads.
“Our thoughts and concerns are predominately for their wellbeing and privacy during this time. It is absolutely heartbreaking to lose some beautiful souls that we consider part of our extended family.”
“Rabbit Eat Lettuce place the wellbeing and safety of our patrons as the number one priority and we have highly trained first aid, professional paramedics working 24 hours throughout the festival & an on call doctor onsite. In addition QLD Police & QLD Ambulance are on duty in a user pay capacity during the festival. We work together with authorities to ensure that the environment we provide is as safe as possible. The relevant bodies will be investigating to determine exactly what happened. It is appropriate that we give them the chance to do their work and respect the deceased family’s right to privacy and avoid any speculation.”
