Last weekend, veteran songwriters Bob Dylan and Neil Young co-headlined a show together at Nowlan Park in Kilkenny, Ireland.
Towards the end of the evening, the pair took to the stage together for the first since 1994. Dylan and Young performed ‘Will the Circle Be Unbroken’, a traditional Christian hymn written in 1907 that Dylan sang early in his career, around 1961.
In 1967, he recorded a version of it during his Basement Tapes sessions with The Band. This appears to be the first time Dylan has played the song since 1976.
It’s not the first time Young and Dylan have performed the song, however. As Rolling Stone points out, the first time the two ever played together, a 1975 show in San Francisco, they performed ‘Will the Circle Be Unbroken’ together. Pretty cute.
Dylan and Young have been on separate European tours for some time, and Kilkenny was the last stop for both of them.
