Iggy Pop is anything but predictable and his new single well and proves it.
The punk icon has just unleashed a brand new tune dubbed ‘James Bond’, lifted off his forthcoming 18th studio album Free, and if it isn’t another sonic curveball.
Written and produced by jazz trumpeter Leron Thomas, the sparse, slinky plodder has a distinctly sinister vibe and features a blistering trumpet solo that explodes out of nowhere in the midst of its minimalistic, low-key instrumentation.
ICYMI: Free is due out on September 6th, following on from the Stooges frontman’s Grammy-nominated and most commercially successful album, 2016’s Post Pop Depression.
But as its first two cuts have demonstrated, it’ll sound nothing like it. And that’s just the way Mr. Pop wants it to be.
