It’s rare that an artist has such a profound impact on you as quickly as Jack Colwell does, but that’s exactly what his new single ‘In My Dreams’ will have once you hear it.
It’s a dark, ethereal and cinematic ballad that tugs at your heartstrings from the minute it starts, reminiscent of Nick Cave and Kate Bush.
On top of that, Colwell has given an equally as stunning video for the song – a glamorous, hazy Twin Peaks-style clip of Colwell dancing through the English countryside.
Of the video, which was filmed by Joe Nankin, Colwell explained what he wanted to convey with the clip and detailed his inspirations.
“When I was writing the song, I was heavily influenced by Renaissance and Golden Age paintings that depicted violent scenes,” Colwell said in a statement.
“I found it really fascinating how something so beautiful could also be so tortured. I collected images that I passed onto the director who immediately caught onto what I was trying to express with my music. We ran away to the woods and conjured up our own queer version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
He’s also announced two special shows to preview his forthcoming debut album, which In My Dreams features on, and you can check out all those details, as well as watch the video, below.
