The release date for the new album by nerd-core pioneer, MC Lars, has been revised to Friday 1 May. The album, This Gigantic Robot Kills, will be released through Taperjean Records/Shock and features three exclusive bonus tracks, including the first single ‘Guitar Hero, Hero (Beating Guitar Hero Doesn’t Make You Slash)’. The album also heralds the return of MC Lars to Australia for an East Coast tour in May, supported by Brisbane’s Wherewolves. Tickets are now on sale for all shows.
Catch MC Lars on Friday 22 May at the Wheelers Heel Hotel in Wheelers Hill (Victoria), Saturday 23 May at Bang in Melbourne, Wednesday 27 May at Blush Nightclub on the Central Coast, Thursday 28 May at the Campbelltown City Hotel in Campbelltown, Friday 29 May at Spectrum in Sydney, and Saturday 30 May at Thriller in Brisbane.
This Gigantic Robot Kills was mixed by Mike Patterson, who made waves with Notorious B.I.G.’s Life After Death (1997) and Beck’s Midnite Vultures (1999). It includes collaborations with MC Lars’ childhood hero “Weird Al” Yankovic, who plays accordion on ‘True Player for Real’; and Pierre Bouviere (Simple Plan) who performs on the “hottest” track about global warming ever recorded, ‘It’s Not Easy (Being Green).
In true MC Lars style, the collaborations don’t end there. This Gigantic Robot Kills also features contributions from the Rondo Brothers, Mike Kennedy of Vision of Disorder, MC Bat Commander of The Aquabats, Suburban Legends, Gabriel Saporta of Cobra Starship, Brett Anderson of The Donnas, MC Frontalot, Jesse Dangerously, Linus Dotson of Size 14, Parry Gripp of Nerf Herder, Jonathan Coulton, and Sebastian Reynolds.
MC Lars has been combining his love of hip hop and punk music on his laptop since 1998. He has released three albums under the name Lars Horris, two full-length studio albums as MC Lars, and two EPs (including The Green Chistmas EP). He has performed with artists including Say Anything, Gym Class Heroes, Simple Plan, The Matches and Test Icicles, toured across the US, UK, Europe, Australia, and Japan, and has emerged as one of the pioneering artists at the forefront of the “nerdcore” genre.
